fly2help is delighted to report that our Aim High Manager, Kim Lewington, has been awarded the MBE in the Queen's New Year Honours, recognising her work promoting diversity in aviation.
Kim left school aged 16 and took up a Youth Opportunity Programme at Gloucestershire Airport. She initially trained and worked as an air traffic controller before becoming the Airport's business development manager. In that role, she initiated a number of apprenticeship schemes and led the Airport's community outreach programme, which welcomed hundreds of schools and community groups to see behind the scenes at Staverton.
She left the Airport in 2014 to join us at fly2help, where she continues to inspire youngsters from all walks of life and backgrounds to pursue their dreams.
"I'm truly humbled to receive this honour. I was given an opportunity as a teenager to embark on a career that I've thoroughly enjoyed. It wasn't without its challenges. It was very much a male-dominated environment when I began my training and women and ethnic minorities remain under represented. I passionately believe that everyone, whatever their circumstances, should have that chance too.
The pandemic means that aviation and aerospace have been hit hard and fly2help will be helping the industry to recover too as we roll out our Aim High programme to schoolchildren across the country. "
Please call us for a chat about getting involved in any of our programmes through nominating, volunteering, fundraising or collaborating with us in any way, we'd love to hear from you.
