On 10th September 2006 we had the great privilege of working
with Dreamflight at Filton Airport. Dreamflight are taking
a group of terminally ill, sick and recovering children for
a once in a lifetime holiday to Florida on 14th October. In
preparation for this trip the country is split up into regional
groups.
Prior to leaving for Disneyland, each group has a ‘Get
to know each other’ day involving the children, families,
escorts and carers, who before this time have never met.
fly2help
were approached by our local region and asked if there was
some way we could help to make the day a more relaxing, yet
fun and exciting ice breaker ... our response? ... "Of course
we could!"
Our aim was to fly the 12 children and their escorts.
However, not only did we succeed in doing this, but with the
help and support of a fabulous team we finished the day having
flown 49 children and adults, including siblings and parents.
We also managed to turn a certain ‘volunteer’,
more commonly known as Charlie Dimmock, upside down!
Overall, an incredible and overwhelming success! Before the
day was finished we had already been asked for a repeat performance
next year. Everyone went home happy and looking forward to
their trip of a lifetime to Florida with new friends.
