Cameron - Air Smiles Day 12th April 2010
On the morning of Monday 12th April Cameron and his family
arrived at Cotswold Airport in anticipation of a truly wonderful
day out. This family had been through some extremely tough
times in the last few years so the chance to be treated like
VIPs for a day, in such a unique setting, provided them with
the perfect opportunity to really relax and have fun.
Cameron has always loved aeroplanes so fly2help arranged for a Tobago aircraft to come to Kemble and give him a flight with his mum alongside him, as well as offering the chance for Cameron's younger brother Thai to fly with his grandfather Terry. Michael, the owner and pilot of the Tobago who had so generously agreed to fly everyone, allowed an exciting photo shoot to take place beside the aircraft so that a fantastic album could be created as a souvenir gift for the family.
Cameron and Nicke, his mum, were the first to strap in and
get airborne for a thrilling flight over the beautiful Cotswold
countryside. They were able to see Westonbirt Arboretum and
even the home of the heir to the throne as they enjoyed the
stunning aerial views below them. Next to fly was Thai and
his granddad Terry, both of whom were delighted to be flown
in such style.
Following these aerial adventures the family settled down to a delicious lunch in the AV8 restaurant whilst recalling the excitement of the flights. Next came a personal tour of the static Britannia aircraft, so kindly conducted by the volunteers who maintain it. The boys took it in turns to pose in the captain's seat upfront and got to see the cockpit of a really big aircraft.
Then it was off to the Air Traffic Tower to get a bird's
eye view of the airport and watch a helicopter practising
its landings. Finally, after much needed extra refreshments
in AV8 it was off to the Fire Section to be hosted by the
wonderful firecrew and to look around a fire engine.
By now the boys were smiling and laughing non-stop as they got to sit in the front of the vehicle and operate various ear splitting sirens. We were all giggling at their exploits. To top it all the boys were given fly2help goody bags at the end of their Air Smiles adventure with us.
