Air Smiles Day - 5th August 2010

5 August Air Smiles DayOn Thurs 5th August two families came to Cotswold Airport to enjoy the flight of a lifetime with their 25yr old sons who, despite their learning difficulties, are greatly encouraged to experience new activities. The Mottram and Greaves families assembled at the AV8 restaurant to start their exciting day with a warm welcome from the fly2help volunteers. The pilots, Martin and Gill, had kindly volunteered to fly everyone together in their beautiful Kingair aeroplane.

5 August Air Smiles DayOnce the safety briefs had been given and enough coffee had been drunk it was time to take to the skies, which were thankfully clearing after a rainy start to the day. After getting airborne the plane headed for the southwest so that its passengers could have a spectacular bird's eye view of the stunning Severn Bridges. Then it was time to follow the Somerset coast along to Weston-super-Mare before turning back for Bristol and then Cirencester where the group tried to spot their homes from the air before finally the aircraft landed once more at Cotswold. Everyone descended the aircraft steps with beaming smiles and an appetite!

5 August Air Smiles DayAfter a relaxed hour over a delicious lunch, the families were taken on a tour of the Fire Section and allowed to sit in the fire engine and best of all. sound the alarms!

Then it was up to the Air Traffic Control Tower to watch other aircraft taking off and landing, as well as listening in to the radios and seeing what the Air Traffic Controllers get up to.

Finally to top it all flight certificates and fly2help goody bags were given to the main beneficiaries to remind them of their fantastic day out with their families and carers.
