More Aviation Dreams are Realised at Kemble - 2009 Scholarship Report

Thanks once again to the generosity of Kemble Airport owner, Mr Ronan Harvey, 10 lucky youngsters were given the chance of a life-time when they were awarded a place on the 2009 Kemble Airport Aviation Scholarships. fly2help were once again delighted to work in partnership with Kemble Airport and various Kemble businesses.

During the two week Easter period, the scholars, who were all aged between 14 and 18, were able to sample a range of different introductions to the raft of opportunities which the aviation world can offer. They each received 5 hours flying tuition, experiencing aerobatics and general handling in the Ultimate High Bulldog and microlight flying with The Kemble Flying Club, together with the associated ground schooling. They were also privileged to spend time in a Helicopter Sim courtesy of Cotswold Helicopters. In addition, they spent time participating in work placements at several Kemble based businesses, to whom we are very grateful.

Finally, they were given a number of presentations covering RAF careers, Test Piloting, Airport Management, Air Traffic Control and Commercial Flying. They also visited the Bristol Aero Museum based at Kemble and RAF Lyneham.

Once again, the Scholars gained a lot from their time at Kemble, several of whom are now more determined than ever to pursue a flying career, others in engineering and also some budding air traffic controllers!

The 2009 Propeller Award for the Most Developed Scholar was won by Tim Goodwill of Malmesbury. The Most Promising Pilot award was won by Alistair Thomson also of Malmesbury, Most Improved Pilot award went to Oli Bruce of Stroud and finally a special award went to Sam Jacques of Cirencester in the form of a framed 'sick bag' for conquering his air sickness! Well done to you all!
