Luke - Air Smiles Day 11th August 2009

LukeLuke (10) is hearing impaired and partially sighted and, though appearing to be a happy child, he often struggles at school and has limited experience of the outside world. As well as dealing with these constraints, the family has also faced extensive bereavement.

Vivian, John and Luke had a wonderful day at Kemble. Their 30-minute flight in the Longranger helicopter took them on a wonderful tour over the Cotswold countryside.

After a VIP lunch at AV8 restaurant, the family visited the Control Tower, where Luke was allowed to operate the runway lights and watch Ultimate High's air races as well as all the other movements around the airfield.

LukeThe Fire Station was the next stop, where the family enjoyed a tour of the appliances with the crew.

Luke wrote - "On Tuesday 11th August 2009 I went to Kemble airport as a VIP. Originally we were going there to have a helicopter ride. When I got there I was treated like a very important person. I was given lots of gifts, like a Euro Fighter yo-yo that lights up, and a fly2help bag that had some really cool stuff in it. I also went to the control tower, switched on the runway lights and one of the planes fired some smoke for me. I did go in a helicopter called Charlie. I was scared at first, but once I was in the air it was smooth and the trip was really cool. When the pilot landed the helicopter it was landed really well and I said "Quality", because Pilot David was so good. I would like to thank you all very much for making my day one I will never forget. Everyone was so kind. I hope to see you all again soon."
