Matt’s interest in aviation was sparked in the early days, winning a Scout group competition for an aerobatic flight with fly2help Founder, Phill O’Dell. For Christmas and birthdays afterwards, he only ever asked for flying lessons as presents.
Matt joined our Aim High Scholarship in 2010. Having considered engineering to earn the money to enjoy general aviation, he studied hard instead for a place at the CAE Oxford Aviation Academy to train as a pilot. Matt spent 6 months in ground school before going on to gain his Commercial Pilot’s Licence (CPL). Then on Christmas Eve 2014, Matt passed his Instrument Training course.
In June 2015, Matt took his instructor course and went to fly for Clifton Aviation at Gloucestershire Airport and Jet Exchange, North London. When Monarch advertised for pilots, he applied immediately. This meant even more extensive testing, interviews and team exercises before flying tests on the A320 at London Gatwick Airport.
Matt started flying for Monarch in March 2016. Everyone at fly2help wishes him a prosperous and successful flying career!
