Conditions
The Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) rating is an enhancement to the privileges of the
JAA PPL(A).
Once the rating has been obtained you are licensed to fly
out of sight of the ground, enter into a control zone on a
Special Visual Flight Rules (SVFR) clearance with flight visibility
less then 10km but not less than 3km. Other benefits also
include the ability to take off or land with visibility low
cloud of not less than 1800m, this rating opens up many new
possibilities! In order to obtain an IMC rating you must have
at least 25 hours experience as pilot in command since the
date of issue of the PPL(A). The 25 hours experience must
have included at least 5 hours of cross-country flight.
The IMC course must include 15 hours of flying training in
a suitably equipped dual control aircraft. Not less than 10
of the 15 hours must be flown by soul reference to instruments.
The IMC rating is only recognised within the United
Kingdom.
